Coldenhove Takes a Major Step Towards a Sustainable Future with E-Boiler
Eerbeek, June 30, 2025 – Paper mill Coldenhove in Eerbeek is making a significant investment in sustainability with the purchase of an electric boiler (E-Boiler). This innovative electric boiler will be installed alongside the existing steam boiler, giving Coldenhove a hybrid system for steam generation. The E-boiler will make a major contribution to reducing gas consumption and CO2 emissions, while also supporting the stability of the electricity grid.
Sustainability as a Cornerstone
The choice of the E-Boiler is in line with Coldenhove's sustainability ambitions. "We strive to reduce our ecological footprint and make our production as environmentally friendly as possible," says Arnoud Roelandse, director of Coldenhove. "The E-boiler is a major step in that direction. We expect to reduce our gas consumption and CO2 emissions by 20% with this."
A Significant Step for the Future
The E-boiler not only has advantages for the environment but also for Coldenhove itself. "The E-boiler improves the efficiency of our steam production and makes us less dependent on fossil fuels," explains Arnoud Roelandse. "This makes our company more future-proof and strengthens our competitive position."
Grid Stabilization
In addition to the environmental benefits, the E-boiler offers Coldenhove another important advantage: grid stabilization. Maikel Brummelkamp, manager operations at Coldenhove, explains: "One of the challenges of the energy transition is the increasing production of renewable energy from solar and wind power. This can lead to peaks and off peaks in grid load, which can endanger the stability of the electricity grid. The E-Boiler can be used to absorb these peaks and off peaks by taking in excess electricity and converting it into heat. In this way, we contribute to a more stable electricity grid and accelerate the switch to sustainable energy."
Installation and Future Plans
Due to the delivery time, the E-Boiler is expected to be operational at the end of 2025. Coldenhove is excited about the arrival of the E-boiler and sees it as an important step towards a sustainable future. The E-boiler will not only contribute to a cleaner planet but also increase the efficiency of steam production and make Coldenhove less dependent on fossil fuels.
An Investment in the Future
The purchase of the E-Boiler is a significant investment for Coldenhove. However, Maikel Brummelkamp is convinced that this investment will pay off in the long term: "The E-boiler improves the efficiency of our steam production, lowers our energy costs, and makes us less dependent on fossil fuels. We are convinced that this is a valuable addition to our company and that the E-boiler will strengthen our competitiveness."
