WHEN PAPER MEETS FASHION: sponsoring Stéphanie Baechler in Paris

From the 11 to 30 October 2018, visitors were able to admire the creations of Swiss artist Stéphanie Baechler at Rinomina in Paris. In this exhibition, Science friction/Sensory collator, Stéphanie was able to present a collection of screens and their users, in metal, ceramic and textile.

Coldenhove contributed to the development of this collection by supplying Stéphanie with sublimation transfer paper, which she used for some of the pieces.

Stéphanie Baechler

Born in 1983 in Meyriez, Switzerland, Baechler lives and works in Amsterdam. She is an applied artist with focus on textile and fashion.
Having trained at HSLU Lucerne University of Applied Arts, Baechler has also earned a Fashion Master’s degree from the ArtEZ Institute of the Arts in Arnhem, the Netherlands. She has worked as a Textile Developer/Design Assistant for Hussein Chalayan in London and was the head of print design for renowned textile company Jakob Schlaepfer.
Baechler‘s work investigates fashion‘s formal and structural vocabulary. She has received the Federal Swiss Design Award several times and her works continue to be included in both public and private collections.

Science Fiction/Sensory Collator

With her latest collection and through the promotion of sensory richness, Stéphanie Baechler strives to enlighten others about how it is increasingly difficult to imagine ourselves separately from our devices, and how our cyborg relationship is obscuring the impact technology has on our lives and ecosystem.
Two of the pieces displayed at the exhibition were the result of our cooperation with Stéphanie:

  • Flat, sequined disks showing on one side the earth sans satellites and on the other side the earth as it is today with all the satellites revolving around it.
  • Printed images of cortical homunculi.

A textile background and further career have led Stéphanie to use our sublimation transfer paper, which has allowed her to print a different image on each side of a sequined textile.

This is an excellent example of how digital transfer printing can open a wide range of possibilities, including unique designs and highly creative art works.
We thoroughly enjoyed being part of this process, and we continue to look for new and inspiring opportunities to show both our existing and potential customers the endless possibilities of Dye Sublimation Transfer Printing.
